Why Softskills

Indian IT and ITeS industry is presently growing at a rate of over 35 per cent per annum. Presently, over 1.2 million people are employed by this sector. The manpower requirement of this industry in the next five years will be over 4 million.

The top 10 IT companies alone will add more than 100,000 jobs in the year 2006 and 1,35000 jobs in the year 2007. New services have already created 600,000 entry level jobs for graduates in 2005. This sector is growing at the rate of 15% PA.

The retail sector would require over 500,000 people every year in the next 5 years. Therefore, Indian salaries have risen across the board by over 14% PA. However, IT sector has offered over 24% PA rise during the last 3 years.

India currently produces 4.5 lakh engineering graduates and over 3.6 million graduates in other fields. NASSCOM is still apprehending a shortage of over 5,00,000 people in the IT sector only, by the year 2010 because most of these young graduates lack soft skills required by the ITeS units. The other sectors like Retail, Hospitality, Entertainment and Media would also face acute shortage of manpower for the same reason.

On the other hand, India would have over 20 million educated unemployed by the year 2010.

The main reason for this contradiction is the lack of soft skills amongst educated youngsters which are otherwise, well trained (Numbering 540 million, India would have one fourth of world’s youth). Most of them are good in the core skills but loose out because of lack of confidence, communication skills in English, ability to think rationally and strategically. Anyone who can impart the required soft skills to these young job seekers would not only be doing a great contribution to their lives but also towards the country’s economic growth particularly to the growth of IT and ITeS and service sectors of our economy. Super Soft intends to do just the same at a supersonic speed.
